UPLOADS

The goal of the UPLOADS project is to develop a standardised, national approach to incident reporting and learning for the outdoor sector in Australia, and a corresponding national incident dataset.

The project is a collaboration between the Outdoor Council of Australia; Australian outdoor education & recreation associations, providers, government departments, researchers at the University of the Sunshine Coast, Monash University and Federation University Australia. UPLOADS is primarily aimed at organisations that facilitate supervised or ‘led’ outdoor activities. This includes a diverse range of organisations operating under the banners of outdoor education, school camps, adventure tourism, outdoor recreation and outdoor therapy.

The information produced by UPLOADS will support organisations and the sector in future injury prevention activities, with the potential long term benefit being a reduction in injuries and a safer outdoor recreation sector for all.

The UPLOADS project consists of a number of studies that contribute towards the development of a reliable and valid incident reporting and learning system. All studies within the project are underpinned by a systems theory approach to accident analysis.

The UPLOADS Project is currently entering its second phase, in which the focus is on identifying, developing and implementing preventative solutions to reduce injury risk in led outdoor activities. Take part in Australia’s National Incident Dataset with UPLOADS and participate in the national trial. Find out more here.
